Rico Blanco reacts to fan-made video of 'Trese' with 'Yugto' as opening track

A viral post suggesting “Yugto” - the 2008 single of ex-Rivermaya frontman, Rico Blanco - to be used as the opening theme of the anime series, Trese, has caught the attention of, well, Rico Blanco himself.

The video uploaded on Facebook shows Trese's opening credits with “Yugto” playing as the background music instead of the local ethnic track used in the series.

Trese's opening music as seen by viewers on Netflix is the Ifugao ethnic song referred to as “Balluha” or “Balluha'd Bayyauhen.”

“I think 'Trese' not having @ricoblanco's “Yugto” as its opening theme is a missed opportunity. Sinubukan kong i-edit yung opening credits. Grabe, mangiyak-ngiyak ako nung una kong napanood 'yung resulta,” wrote a certain Tito Ken on Twitter.

Apparently, Rico saw the post and retweeted it accompanied by a blushing emoji.

Released on September 14, 2008, “Yugto” was the first single off Rico's solo debut album, Your Universe.

Coincidentally, the original video of the anthemic song directed by Quark Henares featured imageries and references on supernatural beings in Philippine folklore.

The video, however, was shelved, with Rico opting for a much straightforward video of him and invited backup musicians performing the song.

There are those though who still prefer Trese's current opening music given its roots and connection to local culture.
